Display with High Refresh Rate and Image Quality

The R1 is the first gaming AR headset to feature a 240-Hz Micro-OLED panel. This hardware configuration results in a virtual screen size of 171 inches with a field of view of 57 degrees. To minimize motion blur and input lag, the device operates with a response time of 0.01 ms and a “motion-to-photon” latency of 3 ms.

The glasses use electrochromic lens technology to control light transmission. The lenses can automatically adjust their transparency based on head-tracking data—they darken when the user focuses on the virtual screen and clear up again when the user looks away. Users can also choose between three manual dimming levels or use a special one-click function to instantly clear the lenses.

The device offers native 3-DoF support, allowing users to interact with the virtual display in a three-dimensional space. Two main modes control this interaction: “Anchor” mode, which fixes the screen to a specific position in the room, and “Follow” mode, in which the display moves with the user’s perspective. In addition, the R1 can convert standard 2D game libraries into 3D, adding extra depth to existing titles.

The ROG XREAL R1 is designed as a plug-and-play solution. System management is handled via the ROG Control Dock and the ASUS DisplayWidget Center, allowing for precise adjustments using a keyboard and mouse. The software also supports GamePlus features such as AI-powered dynamic crosshairs and professional timers.

For handheld console users, the R1 supports a synchronized dual-display setup. The glasses project the primary game environment, while the handheld device’s built-in screen remains active as a control interface. Using the Armoury Crate SE app, users can adjust brightness, screen size, aspect ratio, and frame rate boosts in real time without having to pause the game.

Sound is provided by Bose technology, which creates a spatial soundstage that enhances situational awareness during gameplay.

The ROG XREAL R1 is currently available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through specialty retailers and online stores. The manufacturer has set the suggested retail price at €919.
