Native Dual 4K Video Output via USB4

With the ExtendView adapter, users can connect two external displays, each supporting a resolution of up to 4K at a refresh rate of 60 hertz. Unlike many multi-monitor adapters that rely on DisplayLink software or special drivers to function, this device utilizes the native video transmission capabilities of the USB4 standard.

This native implementation enables a plug-and-play experience, in which the host device recognizes the monitors as independent extended displays. This configuration is designed to boost productivity by allowing users to distribute different applications and documents across multiple screens—without the latency or software overhead associated with driver-based solutions.

Specifications

Beyond video extension, the adapter functions as a comprehensive connectivity hub. It features four data ports for a wide range of peripherals:

  • Two USB-A ports: Support data transfer rates of up to 10 Gbit/s.
  • Two USB-C ports: Support data transfer rates of up to 10 Gbit/s.

These ports are designed for connecting external SSDs, storage devices, and other peripherals. To maintain power to the host laptop, the device features a USB-C Power Delivery port. This port supports pass-through charging at up to 140 watts, provided that the host device, power adapter, and charging cable all support the USB Power Delivery 3.1 standard or higher.

The adapter is housed in an anodized aluminum casing in the color “Space Black.” To improve portability and durability, Satechi has included a nylon-braided USB-C cable that connects the adapter to the host device and supports USB4 bandwidth of up to 40 Gbit/s.

Compatibility

The ExtendView adapter is compatible with macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS, provided the host device supports USB4. However, the ability to drive two independent displays depends on the host device’s specific hardware:

  • Support for two extended displays: Available for Windows devices with USB4 and Mac computers equipped with M3, M4, M5, or M6 series chips.
  • Limitation with the M3 Base chip: On Macs with the M3 Base chip, two external displays are supported only when the laptop is used in clamshell mode (with the lid closed).
  • Support for a single extended display: Mac models with M1 or M2 base chips, as well as devices running iPadOS, are limited to a single extended external display.

For full 4K-60 Hz dual-display functionality, the host device must support a USB4 bandwidth of 40 Gbit/s.
