To celebrate the anniversary, the board features a retro design inspired by the original Crosshair from 2006. This includes a special copper-colored heatsink arrangement, blue-and-white slots, and the classic Project G logo. The motherboard is designed for AMD Ryzen 9000, 8000, and 7000 series processors. The power delivery system features a 20+2+2-phase layout with 20 VCORE phases and two SoC phases rated at 110 A, as well as two additional phases rated at 80 A. This is supported by two 8-pin ProCool II CPU power connectors, 10K black metallic capacitors, and MicroFine alloy chokes.
Memory support is provided by four DDR5 DIMM slots capable of accommodating up to 256 GB of RAM at speeds of up to 9600 MT/s. The board utilizes NitroPath DRAM technology, which is designed to increase memory frequency headroom by up to 400 MT/s and improve slot retention by 57%. It also features the AEMP and DIMM Fit Pro tuning functions.
In terms of expansion options, the ROG Crosshair 2006 offers two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots. Storage options include five integrated M.2 slots, though the documentation indicates a mix of PCIe 5.0 and 4.0 interfaces. The connectivity options are extensive and include two USB4 Type-C ports, two 20 Gbps Type-C ports on the front panel, 10 GbE and 5 GbE Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 7. Other I/O ports include HDMI, optical S/PDIF, and four SATA 6 Gb/s ports.
A notable new feature is the 2-inch LiveDash OLED display. This screen provides real-time system data, including CPU clock speeds, temperatures, and fan speeds, as well as the status of BIOS updates and POST information. The display supports monochrome animations in 256x64 resolution.
