The developers have also ensured that support for older environments, back to Linux kernel 4.18, is still guaranteed. For those using FreeBSD, the software will continue to work with version 13.3 and newer. Beyond kernel compatibility, the 2.4.2 update fixes several technical issues and bugs. Notable improvements include enhancements to initramfs and additional support for POSIX_FADV_DONTNEED. The development team also focused on the infrastructure and updated the continuous integration pipelines and the test suite to ensure better stability.
Other improvements include early fixes for the upcoming Linux 7.1 kernel and stricter enforcement of SPDX licensing. Various Linux-specific code adjustments have also been made to optimize performance and reliability.
For administrators who are not yet ready to upgrade to the 2.4 series, the project has simultaneously released OpenZFS 2.3.7. This version serves as an update to the previous stable branch and includes support for Linux 7.0 as well as many of the same bug fixes that are included in the latest release.
Detailed changelogs and download packages are available via the project's GitHub repo.
