The price shift represents a substantial increase over the original launch costs. The 512GB OLED model, which previously retailed for 549 USD, has seen a price hike of 240 USD. Similarly, the 1TB OLED model has increased by 300 USD, moving from 649 USD to its current price of 949 USD. Valve has not issued a formal public statement to accompany these changes.

Supply Chain Constraints

These adjustments follow a notice released by Valve in February, which alerted consumers that memory and storage shortages were causing stock deficits in various regions. The company indicated that the scarcity of these critical components was not limited to the handheld but was also creating challenges for the production of other hardware.

Impact on Future Hardware

The current market volatility is also affecting Valve's broader hardware roadmap. The development of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame has been hampered by the same memory and storage shortages. While official pricing for the Steam Machine has not yet been confirmed, the increased costs associated with the Steam Deck OLED suggest that the final price point for the new hardware may be higher than initially anticipated.

Currently, the OLED series remains the only handheld option available through the official Valve store, as the 256GB LCD model is no longer in production.
