The Verified program is designed to inform users that a game will work on a specific hardware and ensure a seamless gaming experience right out of the box, without the need for manual adjustments. With the introduction of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, Valve will use a similar labeling system as for the Steam Deck.

As the Steam Machine offers higher performance requirements than the Steam Deck, Valve intends to re-evaluate certain titles. Games that previously could not meet the Steam Deck verification criteria due to hardware limitations will now be eligible for Steam Machine verification.

Hardware specifications and configurations

The Steam Machine is powered by a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 processor and RDNA 3 graphics with 28 compute units. While official pricing is not yet available, leaked reservation codes and backend data indicate that the device will be available in four different packages. These configurations are expected to be based on 512GB and 2TB of storage, with some packages possibly including the Steam Controller.

Parallel to the Steam Machine, Valve is launching the Steam Frame. This is a standalone virtual reality headset that enables local media playback and wireless streaming from a PC.

Release schedule

The confirmation of a summer launch represents a more concrete timeframe than previous announcements. Previous reports have spoken of a 2026 release, although Valve has indicated that storage and memory shortages have impacted the production timeline.

Recent activity in the Steam backend, including the addition of Welcome Tour files, also points to an imminent arrival of the hardware. Industry observers expect more details to be announced at Summer Game Fest.
