Firmware and hardware compatibility

Although firmware 6.02 dates from October 2022, this update extends the range of the loader beyond its original specifications. For users running firmware versions 5.00, 5.02, 5.10, 5.50, 6.00 and 6.02, compatibility with the internal M.2 slot is maintained, expanding storage options when running the operating system.

PS5 firmware support

ps5-linux is currently only supported on PS5 Phat on the following firmwares:

  • 3.00, 3.10, 3.20, 3.21 without M.2 support
  • 4.00, 4.02, 4.03, 4.50, 4.51 with M.2 support
  • 5.00, 5.02, 5.10, 5.50 with M.2 support
  • 6.00, 6.02 with M.2 support

Connectivity and driver updates

One of the most important new features of the latest update is the implementation of functional drivers for the built-in WLAN chip. Previously, networking the console via Linux was a major hurdle; the addition of these drivers simplifies the process and improves the overall usability of the system.

Technical limitations and outlook

The development of the loader has encountered certain technical obstacles related to the newer system software. According to the documentation on the GitHub page of the project, the newer compatible firmware versions require a different exploit than those used in previous iterations. In addition, project lead Andy Nguyen has clarified that there are no plans to support firmware versions after 6.02.
