Implementation of the low-latency layer

The update integrates the “low_latency_layer” workaround for the Vulkan driver, which enables the use of AMD Anti-Lag 2 and NVIDIA Reflex on most GPU hardware components under Linux. This feature, previously available as a standalone workaround, is now integrated into the CachyOS Proton environment to simplify the process of reducing system latency.

To enable these features, users must add the startup option LOW_LATENCY_LAYER=1. The developers point out that additional customizations and specific configurations may still be required, which can be found in the official documentation of the low_latency_layer project.

Discord Rich Presence and rpc-bridge

CachyOS-Proton 11 also introduces the rpc-bridge, a tool that enables rich presence support for Discord. This allows the application to accurately display a user's current activity within a game. This feature is not enabled by default; users who wish to use it must use the PROTON_DISCORD_BRIDGE=1 startup option.

System and compatibility updates

Beyond latency and social features, version 11 includes several usability improvements. The update modifies media playback routines to minimize the manual intervention required to play content correctly.

The OptiScaler injection method has also been updated. This change improves the way the tool is applied to games, effectively expanding the list of titles that are compatible with the scaler. Finally, Proton 11 has changed its default operating system environment to Windows 11.
