The updated benchmark introduces a new category of media workloads designed to reflect current device usage. These tests evaluate how hardware handles tasks such as video conferencing, streaming, and content consumption. Specifically, the tool now measures the encoding of screen-sharing videos using the AV1 codec, as well as the compression of podcasts and voice memos using the Opus audio codec. In addition, Geekbench 7 integrates the “Whisper” speech recognition feature to test video decoding and automatic captioning.
Expanded Datasets for Modern Application Requirements
To meet the demands of current software, Primate Labs has increased the scope and variety of the datasets used in the tests. The file compression benchmarks now cover a broader range of archives and formats. Similarly, the PDF performance test uses documents of varying complexity to enable a more accurate evaluation. The photo library tests have been expanded to include additional image formats such as DNG and JPEG-XL, while the photo editing simulations have been updated to reflect more comprehensive and realistic editing workflows.
Revised Logic for Multi-Core Scaling
Geekbench 7 features a revised approach to multi-core benchmarks. Instead of applying all available threads to every workload, the software now triggers multithreading mode only for tasks that are typically multithreaded in real-world applications. This change is intended to deliver results that better reflect how software utilizes multiple cores in practice and how devices perform in everyday use.
Improvements to the GPU Benchmark and CUDA Support
The GPU benchmark has been more heavily focused on machine learning and content creation. New workloads evaluate hardware capabilities in terms of image upscaling, real-time face tracking, and image and video editing. To expand the scope of device comparisons, Primate Labs has added support for CUDA, enabling more comprehensive performance measurement across different platforms.
Licensing and Availability
