The Fritzbox 5630 is designed for direct connection to fiber-optic networks and supports both the GPON standard (up to 2.5 Gbit/s) and the AON standard (up to 1 Gbit/s). For users with an external fiber-optic modem, the device features a 2.5 Gbit/s WAN port (RJ45), allowing it to function as a high-speed gateway.

Wi-Fi 7 Specifications and Band Limitations

Although the device supports the Wi-Fi 7 standard, it operates as a dual-band router. It uses the 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz bands via 2x2 antennas and achieves data rates of up to 688 Mbit/s and 2,880 Mbit/s, respectively. This results in a combined Wi-Fi transmission rate of approximately 3,568 Mbit/s. It is worth noting that the Fritzbox 5630 does not support the 6-GHz band—a feature reserved for higher-end models such as the Fritzbox 5690 Pro. To improve connection stability, the router features Zero-Wait-DFS, which monitors available 5-GHz channels in the background to enable faster channel switching without the usual wait times.

The hardware includes a network switch with three Gigabit Ethernet ports. The 2.5 Gbit/s WAN port is versatile and can also be used as a local LAN port for devices with high bandwidth requirements, such as network-attached storage (NAS) devices. In addition, the device features a USB 3.0 port for connecting printers or external storage devices.

The router runs on FritzOS and offers tools for VPN configuration, parental controls, guest network management, and media server functions. For telephony and home automation, the Fritzbox 5630 features an integrated DECT base station that supports both IP/SIP and an analog phone line (FXS).

Market Positioning and Pricing

The Fritzbox 5630 is positioned as the entry-level model in the fiber-optic portfolio. It differs from the flagship 5690 Pro, which offers tri-band Wi-Fi and Zigbee support, as well as from the 5690 XGS, which is designed for 10G connections. With sustainability in mind, Fritz GmbH has reduced the baseline power consumption of this generation and continues to manufacture the device in Europe. The device comes with a five-year manufacturer’s warranty and long-term update support.
