Wayland Performance and Vulkan Stability
A key focus of version 620.70.06 is the optimization of explicit synchronization when using the Wayland compositor. Technical benchmarks showing high frame rates demonstrate improved performance with this synchronization method. In addition, the driver fixes visual instabilities affecting multi-GPU configurations. Specifically, it resolves issues with screen flickering and display errors that occurred in Vulkan applications when the VK_ENABLE_DEVICE_GROUPS variable was enabled.
Graphics OSD and Backend Compatibility
The update also expands the functionality of the OpenGL display tool. The GL_SHOW_GRAPHICS_OSD tool, used to monitor graphics output, is now compatible with all Vulkan backends. This includes support for both Wayland and Direct-to-Display configurations.
Game Regressions and Stability Patches
Several important fixes have been implemented to improve the gaming experience for certain titles. The R620 driver resolves a regression introduced in the R595 branch that negatively impacted the performance and stability of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” Additionally, this version fixes sporadic crashes in “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.” These crashes were related to the use of VKD3D Proton descriptor heaps, a component essential for translating DirectX 12 calls to Vulkan on Linux. The NVIDIA Linux driver 620.70.06 is available for download on the official NVIDIA website.
