Simplified integration into the infrastructure
The 5G Backup is designed to integrate into existing networks without the need for gateway replacement or extensive reconfiguration. The device uses a Power over Ethernet (PoE) connection so that it can be connected directly to a compatible switch port. Once connected, the device integrates into the existing UniFi environment and provides instant redundancy capabilities.
Signal reception and hardware flexibility
To maximize uptime, the hardware features a high-performance antenna designed for stable signal reception. Unlike integrated cellular modules, this standalone form factor allows administrators to place the device in the location within a facility where cellular reception is strongest. The device supports multiple mounting options, including wall and desk mounting, to ensure optimal throughput and signal integrity.
Vendor-agnostic connectivity
The UniFi 5G Backup is unlocked and supports both traditional SIM cards and eSIM technology. This approach allows users to choose the mobile carrier and data plan that provides the best coverage for their specific geographic region. This flexibility ensures that the backup system remains functional regardless of the local network operator landscape.
Centralized data traffic management
The failover system is managed via UniFi Network 10, which provides a centralized control plane for managing all WAN connections. Administrators can define specific failover behaviors, such as which network segments or individual clients are prioritized during a 5G switch. This level of control enables precise traffic routing and ensures that critical business operations remain online during primary connection failures.
