Diagnostic Tools in the MyFRITZ App

The updated MyFRITZ app now includes a feature called “Smart Check.” This tool appears on the home screen and monitors the status of your internet connection, phone service, Wi-Fi, LAN, and security settings. If the system detects a problem—such as a missing mesh connection to a repeater—it provides specific instructions for resolving the issue. The beta version also includes support pages and a chatbot, allowing users to access technical support directly within the app.

Network Traffic and DNS Filtering

To ensure stability during video conferences, FRITZ!OS 8.50 offers automatic prioritization. The system detects real-time communication and gives it priority on the network. This feature is currently available for the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro and 7690; a broader rollout is planned before the operating system’s final release.

For security reasons, a new DNS filter allows you to block unwanted content on all connected devices, including smart TVs and IoT devices. The filter blocks known phishing sites, botnets, and malware. It supports standard blocklists and allows the use of community-maintained lists to remove trackers and ads at the router level.

Updates on Connectivity and Failover

The FRITZ! Failsafe system is now compatible with 4G and 5G models. These devices can now be configured to use a LAN connection as their primary Internet source, for example, via an ONT for fiber-optic connections. If the fixed-line connection fails, the router automatically switches to the cellular network to keep the home network online.

Accessibility Features for FRITZ!Fon

A new “Simple Mode” has been added for FRITZ!Fon devices to make operation easier for older users or those who prefer a less complex user interface. This mode simplifies the menus and turns the selection buttons into speed dial buttons. This mode includes an SOS call feature. Users can program up to four emergency contacts. In an emergency, the phone will call these contacts one after another. The duration and frequency of these calls can be adjusted in the settings.

Smart Home and Energy Management

New features in the smart home functions include new energy management options for the FRITZ!Smart Energy 200 and 210 power outlets. These outlets can now automatically shut off if a defined power threshold is exceeded for a certain period of time. Automation routines, such as “Leaving Home” or “Going on Vacation,” can now be triggered via geofences set up in the Smart Home app. Some routines can be configured to activate only after all residents have left a specific zone.

In addition, the FRITZ!Box 5690 Pro now functions as a Matter Bridge. This allows FRITZ! Smart Home devices and other compatible hardware to be integrated into the Apple Home, Google Home, or Amazon Alexa ecosystems for control via voice commands.
