The new hardware features VqLAN technology and dynamic segmentation, thereby expanding the capabilities previously introduced with the AP7 access point. Unlike standard switches, which primarily ensure connectivity, these devices are designed to enforce policies and monitor traffic. This enables network administrators to visualize connectivity and apply consistent security policies across the entire infrastructure—regardless of whether a device is connected via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.

High-Performance Infrastructure: Switch X

The Switch X is designed for enterprise environments and network backbones that require high throughput. It features a rack-mountable chassis with eight 10-Gigabit RJ45 ports that support PoE++, as well as four 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplink ports. With a total PoE power output of 420 watts, the device is capable of powering multiple high-power devices such as VoIP phones, security cameras, and Wi-Fi access points. It supports both traditional VLANs and VqLAN deployments and has a recommended MSRP of $699.

Edge Deployment: Switch SE

For smaller office environments or edge deployments, Firewalla has introduced the Switch SE. This compact desktop model features eight 2.5-Gigabit RJ45 ports with PoE+ and two 10-Gigabit SFP+ uplink ports. It offers a total PoE power output of 120 watts and is designed to function either as a standalone managed switch or as an edge device to complement the Switch X. The estimated MSRP for this model is $300.

When integrated into a Firewalla environment, these switches enable comprehensive network monitoring via the Firewalla app. Key features include:

  • Monitoring of local east-west traffic between devices on the same network.
  • Application of microsegmentation using VqLAN.
  • Visualization of the entire network topology.
  • Direct access control for all connected wired and wireless endpoints.

Availability and Release Schedule

Pre-orders for the Switch product family are scheduled to begin in July 2026. Firewalla will offer two main purchase options: “Early Access” devices, available exclusively in the United States with beta software, and pre-order devices. The latter will be offered at a discounted price, with delivery of the final production hardware and software expected between September and October 2026.
