The Archer 8 is designed to mitigate common connectivity issues in densely populated residential environments, such as signal degradation in different rooms, network congestion from numerous connected devices and unstable roaming within mesh systems. By prioritizing consistency, the platform aims to stabilize performance for high-bandwidth applications, including video conferencing and gaming.
Validated performance metrics
Internal lab tests comparing early Wi-Fi 8 deployments to Wi-Fi 7 show significant improvements at the protocol level. Data demonstrates a throughput increase of up to 33% from improved coding and modulation, and an additional 24% gain from unequal modulation technologies that maintain consistency during signal quality variations.
In environments with high interference, the system shows a 15% improvement in throughput between multiple access points. Coverage in multi-story buildings also shows measurable improvements: Connections with a single device show an increase of up to 30%, and in environments with multiple devices an increase of 10 to 20%. In addition, RF optimization has led to a 1 to 3 dB improvement in reception sensitivity in both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands.
Hardware development and design
The Archer 8 is characterized by a minimalist design with precise contours and a micro-ribbed structure. A soft, radiant light is integrated into the front of the device. Inside, the router combines AI-powered network intelligence with advanced thermal and antenna architecture to ensure stable performance even under high utilization.
Wi-Fi 8 product roadmap
The Archer 8 is the first release of a comprehensive Wi-Fi 8 ecosystem. TP-Link plans to expand this portfolio with a range of networked devices over the next year. The Deco 8 mesh system is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2027, followed by the Roam 8 travel router and a selection of Wi-Fi 8 range extenders and adapters in the second quarter of 2027. Final hardware specifications and regional availability will be confirmed shortly before the respective launch dates.
