The focus of the new generation of iPad Pro is on the switch to a new processor. The devices are expected to be equipped with either the M6 or the M7 chip. While the M6 is expected to be used earlier in the MacBook Pro hardware, the M7 is scheduled for release in the first half of 2027. If the M7 is completed in time, it will be integrated into the iPad Pro; otherwise, the M6 will serve as the main processor.

Both the M6 and M7 chips are manufactured using the 2-nanometer process. Although they share this manufacturing base, the M7 chip has been designed with specific architectural optimizations to handle AI tasks more efficiently than the M6. To support these more powerful processors, Apple has been testing a vapor chamber cooling system. This cooling solution is designed to prevent performance throttling and improve heat dissipation during demanding tasks, allowing the tablet to maintain higher speeds for longer periods of time.

The launch of these iPad Pro models is expected to be part of a major hardware refresh in early 2027. Several new smartphones are also planned for launch in this timeframe, notably the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2.
