The leaked library was initially limited to the Blackwell architecture used in the GeForce RTX 50 series, since the CUDA binaries in the file had been compiled specifically for that hardware. To enable compatibility with the RTX 40 series, the modder “Uncle Burrito” identified the incompatible binary files and replaced them with versions compatible with the Ada Lovelace architecture.

Following the initial discovery, members of the RenoDX community adapted the file for the game “Control” and subsequently tested the experimental implementation in more than a dozen other titles. While NVIDIA has officially demonstrated the technology on configurations with two RTX 5090 cards, the community patch confirms that the functionality can also be extended to high-end GPUs from the previous generation.

Performance Impact and Frame Rate Analysis

Preliminary tests indicate a significant performance drop when DLSS 5 is enabled on RTX 40-series hardware. In tests with an RTX 4090, the frame rate dropped from about 135 FPS to 82 FPS, representing a decrease of approximately 39%. These results are consistent with similar performance losses observed on the RTX 50 series. For example, an RTX 5070 tested in “Cyberpunk 2077” in raster mode saw a drop from 138 FPS to 68 FPS, while an RTX 5070 Ti in “Control” experienced a loss of nearly 50%.

Release Schedule

Since the current implementation is based on a leaked, unfinished library and community patches, these performance metrics are not considered representative of the final product. NVIDIA is expected to officially launch DLSS 5 this fall.
