Linux Kernel Updates (Image © DALL-E)
The update contains a number of adjustments for Intel and AMD laptop hardware. A special fix has been implemented for the microphone of the Framework Laptop 13 Pro with Intel Panther Lake processors. In addition, Logitech Bluetooth keyboards are now better supported through the correct use of the HID++ protocol.
For AMD hardware users, the release fixes issues related to Dynamic EPP, a feature introduced earlier in the 7.1 kernel cycle. In the virtualization area, the developers have added an option to disable KVM with CET virtualization - a step designed to prevent certain host systems from hanging.
Security and stability patches
Linux 7.1-rc4 includes several security fixes that have already been integrated into the stable kernel branches. Most notable is the fix for the ssh-keysign-pwn vulnerability, which previously allowed non-privileged users to access files belonging to the root user. The update also fixes the Dirty Frag and Fragnesia vulnerabilities to ensure system integrity.
Development guidelines and documentation
In addition to the code changes, this release includes updated documentation on the kernel security framework. These documents clarify what constitutes a security bug and provide a framework for the responsible use of artificial intelligence during the development process and for identifying security vulnerabilities.
The stable version of Linux 7.1 is expected to be released in mid-June.
