The TS-h966TX is designed for space efficiency and features a chassis that is 36 percent smaller than that of previous 6-bay Thunderbolt 4 NAS models. This reduction in footprint is intended to optimize workstation environments without compromising storage density or computing power.

The storage architecture is divided into two tiers:

  • 1st Capacity Tier: Five 3.5-inch SATA 6 Gbps slots designed for archiving large amounts of data and mass storage.
  • 2. Performance Tier: Four 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe SSD slots. These slots enable the creation of ultra-fast storage pools or the implementation of SSD caching to boost IOPS for demanding tasks such as visual effects and multi-user production. Users can also use the QDA-UMP4A adapter to install M.2 NVMe SSDs into these U.2 bays.

The system is powered by an Intel Core i3 6-core processor that reaches clock speeds of up to 4.4 GHz. It is equipped with 8 GB of SODIMM DDR5 memory, which is expandable up to 64 GB to handle larger workloads and virtualization.

The device runs the QuTS hero operating system, which is based on the ZFS file system. This provides enterprise-level data integrity and supports WORM (Write-Once, Read Many) technology. ZFS integration ensures that data is protected against silent corruption and optimizes performance specifically for SSD-based storage pools.

Connectivity Options and Interface Specifications

To support editing directly on the workstation and network-based collaboration, the TS-h966TX features a variety of high-bandwidth ports:

  • Thunderbolt 4: Two ports are available for direct connection to Mac and Windows workstations, enabling 4K video editing and fast media capture.
  • Network Interfaces: A 10GBASE-T Multi-Gig port and a 2.5GBASE-T port are built-in for fast team collaboration, backups, and virtualization.
  • USB Ports: Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports (10 Gbit/s) are available for transfers to external drives, in addition to a USB 2.0 Type-A port.
  • Video Output: A 4K HDMI output enables direct on-site monitoring and control via high-resolution displays.

The system integrates Qsirch for file management, utilizing semantic search and advanced RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) search to improve the speed and accuracy of locating specific assets. For cloud integration and remote access, the system works with myQNAPcloud One. It offers additional capacity via the TL-D810TC4 over USB 4 JBOD, enabling scalable storage expansion as project requirements grow.
