The new iMac is powered by the M6 chip, which introduces a dual-Neural Engine configuration with two 16-core engines. This marks a departure from earlier models, which used a single Neural Engine. In addition, the M6 chip integrates Neural Accelerators directly into each GPU core to optimize AI-driven tasks.
The technical specifications show an increase in memory bandwidth from 120 GB/s on the M4 chip to 170 GB/s on the M6. Based on benchmark data, the high-end configurations of the M6 offer CPU performance that is approximately 40 percent faster than the M4 model. Compared to older hardware, the M6 is said to be twelve times faster than the M1-based iMac and 18 times faster than the last Intel-based model. Graphics performance is up to twice as high, and on-device AI processing is up to five times faster than in the previous generation.
Improvements in Connectivity and Storage
Thanks to the integration of Apple’s N1 chip, the iMac now supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6—an improvement over the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards found in the previous model. Storage performance has also been enhanced through the use of PCIe 5.0. This enables SSD read and write speeds that are up to twice as fast as those of the M4 iMac. The maximum storage capacity for this model is 2 TB, while the maximum unified memory is limited to 32 GB.
Display and Multimedia Hardware
The device continues to feature the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display, which offers a peak brightness of 500 nits. For users who prefer reduced glare, an option with nano-textured glass is available. For video communication, the iMac features a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera that supports “Desk View.”
The audio system remains unchanged and includes a setup with six speakers and three microphones. The device continues to support Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.
Prices and Configuration Levels
The new iMac is available on the U.S. market in two main configurations:
