The M6 chip features a redesigned CPU configuration with 12 cores: two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores. This marks a departure from the M5 chip, which had a 10-core CPU with four super cores and six efficiency cores. The graphics subsystem has been upgraded to a 12-core GPU. According to technical specifications, this delivers a 30 percent increase in graphics performance and a 25 percent improvement in AI workload processing compared to the M5 chip.

Neural Engine and Memory Bandwidth

The AI hardware has been significantly updated. The Neural Engine has been upgraded from a single 16-core system to a dual 16-core Neural Engine, doubling the total number of cores to 32. This architecture, combined with additional Neural Accelerators in the GPU, is designed to enable the local execution of large language models (LLMs) and support system-wide AI features such as Siri AI and Apple Intelligence.

Memory bandwidth has also been increased. For models with 24 GB or 32 GB of RAM, the bandwidth increased to 170 GB/s, compared to 153 GB/s in the previous generation.

Connectivity and Support for External Displays

The new MacBook Pro features the N1 wireless chip, which supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. This upgrade replaces the previous wireless standards and ensures faster data transfer as well as improved connection stability. The options for connecting external displays have also been expanded. The device can now drive two external 4K displays with a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz—an increase over the 144 Hz limit of the M5 model.

Storage, Pricing, and Availability

The entry-level storage configuration for the 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at 1 TB. The previous base option of 512 GB, which was discontinued in March, is no longer available for this model.

The starting price for the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip is €2,299.

Pre-orders for the device begin on Wednesday, October 28; the official launch is on Friday, November 6. All other technical specifications, including the display and port configuration, remain identical to the previous version with the M5 chip.
