The most important technical highlight of the K2 Ultra 8K is its sampling rate of 8000 Hz, which is available in both wired and 2.4 GHz wireless mode. This frequency enables significantly faster communication between the keyboard and the computer compared to standard peripherals. To support this, the keyboard is powered by an ARM core MCU with 1MB of flash memory, ensuring accurate key registration.

Connectivity is handled via a tri-mode system. Users can utilize the low-latency 2.4 GHz wireless connection, a traditional wired connection or Bluetooth 5.2, allowing seamless switching between three different paired devices.

To meet the high power requirements of an 8K polling rate, the keyboard has a 4000 mAh battery. According to the technical specifications, the device achieves an operating time of up to 760 hours with the RGB backlighting switched off. This endurance is the result of an optimized circuit design and refined firmware.

The housing is made of CNC-machined 6063 aluminum and offers a stable structure that is both durable and recyclable. For the keyboard surface, Keychron has used double-shot PBT keycaps, which are oil-resistant and remain wear-resistant even with long-term use.

The keyboard is equipped with pre-lubricated Keychron Apex switches as standard. These switches have a reinforced wall structure in the shaft to reduce wobbling and protect the inner housing from dust and moisture. In addition, the PCB supports hot-swapping, allowing users to change the switches to their preference without the need for soldering tools.

The K2 Ultra 8K runs on ZMK, an open source firmware that allows for extensive customization. Users can manage these customizations via the Keychron Launcher, a web-based application. This tool enables key remapping, macro creation and firmware updates via a wired connection with compatible browsers.

Lighting is controlled by a dynamic RGB system with more than 22 presets. You can use RGB per key for individual color assignments or use the Mix RGB function to create two different lighting zones on a single keyboard.

The device is designed for both Windows and macOS. To accommodate the different layout requirements of these operating systems, Keychron includes a set of interchangeable keycaps so that the physical layout always matches the active operating system.
