The End of the GeForce RTX 5090?

Information suggests that board partners are no longer receiving GB202 chips for the production of GeForce RTX 5090 (Review) graphics cards. Most of the cards were likely sold only to companies that had the funds for AI projects, as end customers would not be willing to pay €6,000 for them.

Although NVIDIA has not issued an official statement, this move is not being interpreted as the end of the chip. Instead, the chips are now being repurposed for the significantly more expensive RTX PRO series, including the RTX PRO 6000 and the newly introduced RTX PRO 5500, which in turn was extremely similar to the RTX 5090. Consequently, all RTX 5090 graphics cards currently available at retailers are being shipped from existing inventory held by board partners. Therefore, no additional RTX 5090s are expected to hit the market.

Roadmap for the 24 GB RTX 5080 Model

In addition to the changes regarding the RTX 5090, details about the roadmap for the RTX 5080 have now also emerged. According to reports, NVIDIA plans to release an RTX 5080 with 24 GB of GDDR7 memory, scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. This model is intended to replace the current 16-GB version and appease gamers. The RTX 5080 was also primarily a gaming card.

However, there are still some inconsistencies, as board partners reportedly have not yet received the necessary development materials required to begin developing their specific versions of the graphics card. Current communication regarding the 24-GB model remains limited to verbal confirmations that the hardware will arrive soon.

As a result, the market remains unclear.
